Casting and Metal Working

How it Began

I Got started Metal working around 2000. I had started fighting Armored Combat in the SCA, and wanted to get good armor that would protect me properly. A friend introduced me to Master Eldred Treymane and his wife Mistress Claire de Crecy, and I started hanging out in the shop to help him with his work and clean up. This began my studies in metal working. Since then I have done armor smithing, sword smithing, brass/bronze casting, and pewter casting. Sadly, when I moved away from Raleigh I had to stop my regular visits and my armor and sword smithing, however I have been able to continue my work casting.

Casting

Casting is the ancient art of finding something you like and making metal copies of it. I currently do sand casting with brass, bronze, and silver, and I perform stone mold casting in pewter. Most of my work consists of pewter casting. Examples can be found in the Casting Catalog

Metal Working

Most of my metal working is made up of the reproduction of period pieces of armor from the 14th through the 16th centuries. I have done my own spaulders and elbow cops, and have assisted in the construction of most other pieces or armor. Due to the use of extreme heat and explosive gasses in armor smithing, I have not been able to pursue this path in my current home, but I hope that once I buy a house I can begin the construction of my own shop and continue down this path.
